Vara
1600 15th Street, San Francisco
Vara is a six-story Type IIIA residential project across 1.2 acres in the Mission district, one block from the 16th Street/Mission BART Station. Built along the underground BART line running down Mission Street, Vara was the largest residential project entitled and built in the Mission District when delivered in 2014.
With 202 residential units, 20% of which are affordable, 8,131 square feet of ground floor retail, a 221 car parking garage, and on-site affordable units, Vara revolutionized how on-site amenities and common space-storytelling were designed to fit the neighborhood and target demographic with restaurant quality community kitchens, the first co-working community spaces in SF and over 1:1 bike parking for its residents (amenities now ubiquitous in new residential developments).
